Our head instructor is Craig Slack, a third-degree black belt in Aikido. Sensei Slack practiced under Master Instructor (Shihan) Mitsugi Saotome at his dojo in Washington D.C., and received his rankings directly from Saotome Shihan.
Saotome Shihan lived as a personal student of the founder of Aikido, Morihei
Ueshiba, for fifteen years until the founder's death in 1969. In 1975
Saotome Shihan left a highly respected position as senior instructor at the
World Aikido Headquarters in Tokyo in order to spread the teachings of
Aikido in the United States. Saotome Shihan is now headquartered in Florida where he runs a school of Aikido, and heads the international organization Aikido Schools Of Ueshiba (ASU). He travels extensively throughout the United States, teaching seminars and giving generously of his extensive knowledge about Aikido. As members of the ASU, our dojo has a direct link to the principles and techniques of Aikido as taught by Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, through the teaching and guidance of Saotome Shihan.
