Events for 2007
Seminar with Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan December 12 - 14, 2008 @ Alamo City Aikido
Past Events Mary Heiny Sensei Seminar, February 22 - 24, 2008
Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan December 7 - 9, 2007. ACA's seminar with Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan Dec 7 - 9, 2007 was, in a word, awesome. Sensei taught a principle-based seminar which included such concepts as: unity, energy transfer through a wave, and floating your partner. He showed us drills we could do in order to incorporate these principles into our everyday practice of technique. His great sense of humor showed us we can practice in a joyful manner and still be able to focus when necessary.
Congrats to Darrell, Brian & Chad from South Austin Aikido on passing their shodan exams. Good job guys!
Thanks to everyone who attended, you all helped make this a great seminar!
George Ledyard Sensei
October 12 - 14 and mini-intensive October 14 - 15, 2007. Our mini-intensive weapons seminar was open to 14 lucky aikidoka Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. Ledyard Sensei helped several students prepare for their upcoming shodan test by studying the minute details of kumitachi 1 - 6. Even with the extended hours we were sad to see it all end. Thank you Sensei for your patience in explaining every aspect of your technique!
Kevin Choate Sensei
May 18 - 20, 2007 Thank you, Sensei for sharing your aikido knowledge! Alamo City Aikido would also like to give a special thanks to others that helped make this seminar such a huge success. Thanks to the members of South Austin Aikido for your significant presence and positive energy all weekend. Thanks to Dr. Gerry Kreitz for your chiropractic adjustments to our achy bodies. And thank you Barbara Kammerer for your awesome pictures! We’re all looking forward to another successful seminar when Choate Sensei visits Alamo City Aikido again!
This was our first opportunity to have this incredible instructor at our dojo, and the experience was invaluable. Gleason Sensei's deep understanding of Aikido and Kototama principle and how it applies not only to practice, but to our lives as well, helped all who attended achieve a deeper understanding of their practice and the direction Aikido should be going. Thank you to all who attended, the attendance for this seminar was larger than anticipated. Thank you to all the students from as far as Boston, Las Vegas, Laredo, McAllen, and Austin for traveling here to train with us. It was very encouraging to see so many students from other local San Antonio schools in attendance as well; the spirit of mutual training and learning through Aikido they brought, despite different styles and organizations, is a testament to their instructors' willingness to expand their horizons. We look forward to seeing Gleason Sensei again in the future. We still have copies of Gleason Sensei's DVD, "Aikido and The Japanese Sword"
available at the dojo for anyone interested, cost is $35.
George
Ledyard Sensei, 6th Dan
Our 3rd annual seminar with Ledyard Sensei was another great success! Ledyard Sensei again proved to be a great challenge to our limited pre-conceptions, and he took our practice to a higher level. His teaching managed to give everyone in attendance an
understandable foundation of concepts and principles to work on for long time to come; whether a brand-new beginner or advanced student. As always, our sister dojo in Austin brought a large contingent of students to help make the training top notch and fun. It wouldn't have been possible without them. A special thanks also to the folks from Alamo Heights Aikido and Aikido Sho-Shin-Juku for attending, it was nice to see old friends and to continue to build bridges with other San Antonio dojos. We look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Kevin Choate Sensei January 6th-8th, 2006
We were proud to host Kevin Choate Sensei at our Kagami Biraki (New Year Dojo Opening Celebration) seminar. We could not have asked for a better start to the new year than the instruction and inspiration provided by Choate Sensei. He has a unique approach to Aikido, giving us lots of new ways and ideas to practice basic technique and training. As always, thanks to the Austin group for supporting our seminar and making it a great success. All of our levels of training
benefited and we look forward to having Choate Sensei again.
Ledyard Sensei 6th Dan in San Antonio Oct. 14th-16th, 2005
The second annual seminar with George Ledyard Sensei at Alamo City Aikido was a great success. Ledyard Sensei's systematic teaching style got accross many advanced concepts to all of us and the seeds he planted will continue to bare fruit in our training for a long time. Thanks again Sensei for being such an incredible influence and mentor to our dojo.
Sunny Skys Sensei In Austin
Our friends at Hill Country Aikido in Austin hosted a seminar over the weekend of July 15th-17th with Sunny Skys Sensei of Aiki Zenshin Dojo in Fremont California. This was the second time that our dojo was fortunate enough to have exposure to Skys Sensei's impeccable technique and personable teaching style.
